Assalāmu ‘alaykum wa rahmatullāhi Wabarakath,

Is it just me, or is every other person catching a cold/flu these days? My Sister became really ill the other day and I caught it too. My sore-throat has eased a bit now alhamdulilah, but I've been sneezing continuously today. [Not to mention I sound like a hoarse frog right now!] I went out with my friend and I kept on sneezing which resulted in quiet a few rounds of, 'Alhamdulilah, Yarhamukallah, yahdeekumallah' and this continued for quiet sometime until we came to a point where we'd start laughing when I would sneeze.

I've always heard that the reason why a Muslim should say Alhamdulilah when he or she sneezes is because your heart stops for a second and therefore, you thank Allah azza wa jal for a giving you back life. Scary isn't it? :( But I don't know any actual daleel [evidence] for this, does anybody have any?

When Adam [Alayhisalam] was created and Allah subhanna wa ta'ala blew his soul into his body, he woke up sneezing, therefore Allah azza wa jal commanded him to say, 'Alhamdulilah'.

It was proven in the hadeeth of Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Allaah likes the act of sneezing and dislikes the act of yawning, so if any one of you sneezes and praises Allaah (says “al-hamdu Lillaah”), it is a duty on every Muslim who hears him to say to him, “Yarhamuk Allaah (may Allaah have mercy on you).” As for yawning, it is from the Shaytaan, so if any of you feels the urge to yawn, he should suppress it as much as he can, for when any one of you yawns, the Shaytaan laughs at him.” (Reported by al-Bukhaari, 10/505)

It was also reported from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “If any one of you sneezes, let him say ‘Al-hamdu Lillaah,’ and let his brother or his companion say, ‘Yarhamuk Allaah.’ And if he says to him, ‘Yarhamuk Allaah,’ let him say, ‘Yahdeekum Allaahu wa yusliha baalakum (May Allaah guide you and correct your thinking).’” (Reported by al-Bukhaari, 10/502)

So guys, keep your cold & flu Panadols near you!

that stupid secretdubai person is trying to promote his filthy blog. It is filled with White supremacist ideologies which we, as Muslims, by the will of Allah, will destroy down to rumbles. Stupid idiots.

Regarding the flu, may Allah keep you safe from the Influenza virus that causes the flu. Its a nasty virus. Regarding the daleel, no, the heart does not stop during the sneezing process. hehe. Heart beating is a continuous process. Allah hu Aalim why He likes the sneezing process and dislikes the yawning.
