Assalam Alaykum

This is our area Masjid. I love it. Mashallah, it's beautiful. And the Imams qiraat has fast become my favourite. Personally I like his qiraat more then that of Shaykh Sudais and Shuraim [Although they have their own unique quality and their qiraat can move a person - once upon a time they would be my favourite]. And of course, who can forget Shaykh Mishary Rashid Al-Afasy and Saad Ghamdi. Quranic recitors are a whole different topic and let's not get sidetracked. The Masjid got made a couple of months back. I come here whenever i can, especially for Jumuah prayers. Alhamdulilah.

The Brothers section is huge, and on Jumuah it's full. The Womens section is well furnished and air-conditioned. It's gorgeous and very peaceful. If i'm free i make it a point to go and pray in congregation because it is near-by and convenient.

assalamu alaikum,

Masha Allah that's a nice looking mosque. It's exterior perfectly fits within the landscape...

...I miss khaleej. Alhamdulilah I'm gonna be in oman this summer. Gonna enjoy myself insha Allah.

Jazakallah khair. Jumuahs are amazing to watch. It's packed.

And these are just a few. They have more beautiful ones. But i guess in the end, it's the people in the Masjid that count instead of the exterior.

Nuqtah: Wa alaykumsalam. Oman is nice. I haven't been there for sometime but we used to go a lot before by road. It's not as fast as Dubai or other gulf cities - life there is pretty slow compared to here [or so i've heard] but it's relaxing. Have fun and don't forget to carry a water bottle with you where ever you go. Summers are blazing hot.

wa alaykumsalam

oh garhoud... used to be like in the outskirts back in the early 90s... now i hear its the city... family friends used to live somewhere there, their dad worked in dubai municipality... good old days!

Your right, it's in the city now. I remember that there was a time when it used to be very quite and homely but once the global village [dubai shopping festival] was put near our house so all the traffic shifted here to our area. After that there has been more then enough traffic here. And there has been a lot of development.

Why does Islam separate the men and women in Mosques? Why can't the two sexes pray together?

By constantly calling attention to the difference between men and women, and by constantly separating and segregating them, Islam actually elevates people's preoccupation with sex, in a bad way. It creates a constant undercurrent of unfulfilled, suppressed sexual desire and energy, which then sometimes finds expression in a negative way.

At least, that is my view as an outsider. Perhaps you can enlighten me differently!

My understanding of Islam seperating the sexes is 'prevention is better than cure'. For eg. a man and women who are not married cannot be alone in a room together. 95% of the time nothing would happen but 5% of the time it does (workplace affairs etc) Islam simply recognises that men and women are attracted to each other naturally and it puts boundaries in place in an attempt to keep society as a whole pure. And anonymous dont think that muslims have suppressed sexual desires. You can have alot of fun sexually within the sancitity of marriage! There is no such thing as celibicy in Islam! Thats just my view. From a female westerner. ; )

I've been meaning to reply to this but i haven't had time. I'm trying to step away from the internet for a while.

Anonymous: Anonymous 2 answered your question quite well. In Islam there is a concept of modesty and a lot Mosques are not just for praying. They are a place of peace and gathering too. A lot of Mosques also run programs of Quran or just simple talks. A lot of Women sometimes lie down in the mosque or discuss issues with their female friends and they wouldn't be comfortable doing this if there were Men around.

Let's face it: Men and Women are attracted to each other and no matter what you do, there will be a glance here and there and there will be temptation. And like anonymous 2 pointed out, 'prevention is better then cure'. That is the reality. And the separation allows both the genders to concentrate more on their worship.

There are so many stories that we hear about adultery and fornication and how marriages break down because of certain others. Islam by promoting not mixing with the opposite gender too much helps in preventing these problems.

Very nice answers sisters. Baarak Allaahu feekuma :)

A shaikh once said, no one complains that men and women are segregated in the bathroom. lol.

alhamdulillah for the blessing of Islaam.
